Hamster Free Video Converter is a program to convert videos between different formats, supporting the most common: AVI, MPG, WMV, MPEG, FLV, 3GP, MP3, MP4, HD (H264), DVD, DivX, Xvid, VOB and ASF among others; So it can be useful to convert videos to formats used in mobile devices such as cell phones or consoles (iPad, iPod, iPhone, BlackBerry, PS3, PSP, xBox, Zune, Apple TV, etc.); Or to watch videos captured by some of those devices and view them on the PC or Mac's favorite player.

The possibilities of conversion are many, for example: to pass from AVI to MPEG, from MPEG to AVI, from FLV to AVI, from AVI to MP4, from VOB to AVI, etc.

The interface is very intuitive, making the conversion process easy. You must follow 3 steps:

1- In the first tab there is an area to which you can drag the videos or movies to convert (from the Windows Explorer) or you can select the path from the same application. 

2- In the second tab the output format is selected either by its type or by the name of the device to which the video is to be exported, and it is possible to change the encodeado (the codecs) of the videos, as well as the quality Of them (determined by resolution and frame rate). 

3- Finally, from the third tab, the video is processed, to obtain the new video with the selected format.

The application has a built-in player to view or simply to check that it has been well converted, before sending it to another device. It is possible that some formats do not work and in that case you can use some other player like the VLC.

Hamster is not one of the fastest conversion software we've tried (eg Format Factory is faster), but it has the advantage of having a large number of formats, being easy to use, being able to select as output format a Device or console without needing to know what extension it requires, and to be available in Spanish.

Hamster Free Video Converter 2.0.1.26 is the latest version, updated in September 2011, of this free video converter, which runs on Windows 7, Vista and XP.
